Senate Democratic Caucus Communication Director 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Arizona Senate Democratic Caucus is  seeking a dynamic, driven, and creative Communications Director to join our team. The purpose and role of this position is to lead its caucus-wide messaging strategy, assist with members' communications needs and  manage, develop, and execute public relations and communications strategies and initiatives. This person will be responsible for reputational management activities and serving as the lead on crisis communications. This role reports to the Caucus Chief of Staff.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Developing relationships and working with media outlets 

  • Manage Senate Democrats online and social media platforms to educate the public through persuasive messaging.

  • Responding to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally

  • Making sure all caucus materials have consistent messaging and branding

  • Assist members with media training, talking points, speech writing, drafting op-eds and other requests

  • Managing Twitter, Facebook and website management 

  • Serve as crisis point of contact for Senators and the media

  • Develop and execute dynamic press and earned media strategies to support the Caucus 

  • Develop written press materials – releases, talking points, story pitches – and manage approval process with the Chief of Staff and Senate Leadership team.

  • Experience with website and newsletter production and message development

  • Assist in facilitating media interviews for Senators, ensuring alignment with messaging strategy, media training and coaching, development of talking points

  • Work with Senate Broadcast team to produce videos as requested or needed

  • Strong ability to speak on message with confidence and clarity to media and varied audiences in high-pressure situations

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills, experience building communication responses plans

  • Be a proactive, self-starter and able to work independently and in team environment

  • Have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

  • Possess the ability to effectively function in a challenging, fast-paced environment.

  • Must have a positive attitude, even temperament in stress/conflict situations.

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Arts, Journalism is required or related field of study required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
