'Disgusted and Deeply Angered' Arizona Senate Democrats respond to the SCOTUS decision

June 24, 2022

PHOENIX – The United States' Supreme Court ruled against the constitutional right that every American can control their own body and their own future. Eight in ten Americans support a women's right to choose. The courts have directly rejected the will of the American people and ruled to further the agenda of right-wing extremists. Arizona Senate Democratic Caucus released the following statement:

"We are disgusted and deeply angered by the partisan decision handed down by our nation's highest court. The 1973 landmark decision in Roe v. Wade should have marked the beginning of the fight to ensure all with equality and autonomy, not the ending. Democrats have been forced to defend the constitutional right to an abortion repeatedly and we can promise you: we will continue this fight.

Despite this newest attempt to infringe on our rights as Americans, no court decision or piece of legislation will stop abortion. We will continue to fight to keep abortion safe and legal for all people, regardless of ZIP code, socioeconomic status, or race. This decision will uniquely impact the poor and work class – as it is a larger ongoing attack on the financial security of families and young women. We will mobilize together to continue introducing pro-choice legislation to protect our communities and healthcare providers. Do not lose heart. The fight for abortion rights is not over."
