No War in Iran

PHOENIX – Following Donald Trump’s unconstitutional military strikes in Iran, Arizona State Senate Democratic Leadership released the following statement:  

“Our nation is once again being dragged into a war in the Middle East, while the material conditions of the American people continue to disintegrate rapidly before our eyes.  

Donald Trump ran for President promising to end wars, not start new ones. Now, to distract from his disastrous domestic policy agenda, he has once again betrayed the American people and threatens to plunge our nation and the world into another dark and endless chapter of bloodshed. We extend our thoughts and our prayers to every Arizonan with loved ones in harm’s way in the region.    

While Donald Trump and his wholly incompetent administration are immediately responsible for this constitutional violation and illegal use of military power, we condemn those in Congress for their silence and, by default, their cosigning of this sudden and unvetted escalation. Our collective safety, here at home and abroad, will never be strengthened by endless wars justified on falsehoods. 

Entire generations of our nation have only known a life where foreign wars filled our news cycles, as billionaires profited off the loss of life in distant deserts, and our government made no effort to find peace to protect our men and women in uniform. Our call, today and onward, remains: no war in Iran.”
