PHOENIX – On January 22, Marlon Parris, an Iraq War veteran, was detained while he was on his way to an ATM. He is now being held by ICE at a private prison facility in Florence. Despite being in the U.S. legally for more than 20 years, Marlon Parris in now facing deportation. Senator Catherine Miranda (LD11) released the following statement:
“Marlon Parris is a legal resident who also served our country. Yet, Marlon was still apprehended by ICE agents and sent to a detention center. His detention is absolutely egregious and highlights just how dangerous President Trump’s promises of mass deportation actually are.
Democrats have been ringing the alarm that Trump’s promises will not only harm “criminals” or those who are here without proper documentation. An attack on undocumented individuals is an attack on the entire immigrant community. We can and must do better to protect the rights of our immigrant communities or it will cost us all.”
