Press Release

PHOENIX – Senator Theresa Hatathlie (LD6), on behalf of Diné College and the Navajo Nation, released the following statement on the heartbreaking loss of Dr. Charles “Monty” Roessel, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

“It is with profound sadness that we must announce the passing of our beloved college President, Charles Monty Roessel. After serving on the Diné College Board of Regents for the past 14 years, I can confidently say that his dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to education have left an indelible mark on our institution and community. His leadership was monumental in moving the College from a 2-year to a 4-year institution and securing new Tribal Law programs.

I share in the College and community’s grief at this time. President Roessel's visionary leadership and dedication to educational excellence will be deeply missed. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
