PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona State Senator Theresa Hatathlie (D-District 6) presented a certified United States Flag and a certified Arizona State Flag to Waypoint Recovery, an intensive outpatient treatment program located in Vernon, Arizona, during a recognition ceremony held today at the Arizona State Capitol. The flags were provided in collaboration with the Arizona Secretary of State's Office.
Waypoint Recovery serves as a vital resource for individuals and families working toward lasting recovery across Northeastern Arizona. The program is known for its therapeutic support, as well is its commitment to dignity, belonging, culturally informed care, and addressing environmental factors that can contribute to relapse.
"Recovery is not just about treatment. It is about restoring identity, hope, and purpose," said Senator Hatathlie. "These flags are symbols of unity and endurance. I am honored to recognize Waypoint Recovery's service to our communities and to the people who are walking the hard and courageous path toward healing."
The request for the flags was initiated by Anthony Hickman, a U.S. Army veteran and intern at Waypoint Recovery. In this request, Hickman noted that the flags carry deep meaning for those rebuilding a sense of self, belonging, and pride.
"For our clients, these flags are more than symbols," Hickman wrote. "They are reminders that recovery, community, and resilience endure, and that they, too, belong here and have a future worth fighting for."
Accompanying Hickman at the ceremony, Waypoint Recovery Co-Director Scott Anderson, expressed appreciation for the Senator's recognition and support. Anderson noted that strengthening local recovery programs and expanding services remains essential to meeting community need.
The flags presented were flown over the Arizona State Capitol, representing statewide recognition, shared community identity, and collective support for continued healing and renewal.
