GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. – Arizona State Senator Rosanna Gabaldón, representing Legislative District 21, presented a legislative proclamation on Friday recognizing September 2025 as Falls Prevention Awareness Month. The presentation occurred at Arroyo Gardens in Green Valley, where local leaders and health experts gathered to highlight the importance of preventing falls among older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities.
The proclamation emphasizes that falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths for Arizonans aged 65 and older and urges community members, caregivers, health providers, and organizations to work together to reduce fall risks.
“Falls are not an inevitable part of aging,” said Senator Gabaldón. “As your public servant, I am committed to ensuring that resources, programs, and partnerships are in place so that older adults can live safely and independently.”
Lee Itule-Klasen, Co-Chair of the Southern Chapter of the Arizona Falls Prevention Coalition, added, “We know that proven programs can improve balance, strength, and confidence. Working together as a community means fewer injuries, lower health care costs, and better quality of life for everyone.”
Dr. Salducci, trauma surgeon and public health instructor at the University of Arizona, emphasized the impact of education and prevention efforts. “Half of the people in any group have experienced a fall in the past year. Raising awareness helps us understand why falls happen, how to prevent them, and how to build safer environments.”
This event brought together state and local partners, including the Arizona Falls Prevention Coalition and Pima County Health Department, to reaffirm their shared commitment to fall prevention initiatives across southern Arizona.
